Former US President Donald Trump has sold out his second collection of non-fungible tokens (NFTs) in just one day. The “Trump Digital Trading Cards Series 2” included a total of 47,000 digital collectibles, each priced at $99. The tokens showcased Trump’s name, image, and likeness, all under a paid license.
The digital collectibles were made available on the secondary market, OpenSea, and the trading volume reached 750 ETH. It’s worth noting that neither Trump nor The Trump Organization had any control or ownership over the tokens.
Attend Gala Dinner with Trump in South Florida
Purchasing 47 digital trading cards or 100 cards with cryptocurrency would allow buyers to attend a gala dinner with Trump in South Florida. The collection was available for purchase using Wrapped Ether or a credit card. Users could also set up a wallet with Torus during checkout if they didn’t have one. However, KYC verification was mandatory even for crypto payments.
NFTs as Personal Trading Cards
The FAQ section of the website that introduced the NFT series explained that the digital collectibles are personal trading cards that can be acquired, bought, traded, and more. Although the tokens are stored digitally, they can be compared to traditional basketball or baseball cards. Hence, there is no need to worry about any physical damage.
Digital Hand-signed Autographed Cards
Designed by artist Clark Mitchell, the NFTs were minted on Polygon. According to developers, Trump has digitally hand-signed every single “Autographed Card.” It’s important to note that the trading cards are not related to politics in any way and are not connected with any political campaign either.
Twitter Users React
After the launch of the second series of Trump digital trading cards, Twitter users took to the platform to express their views. Independent journalist Ed Krassenstein tweeted that Trump’s attempt was “cringy.” Krassenstein further added that the former president was trying to prove himself as the alpha male, something he has always wanted to be.
