The artist Jack Butcher, known for his avant-garde Checks open edition NFT collection that caused quite a commotion earlier this year, is currently presenting a fresh take on the project. This new NFT initiative, called ‘Checks Elements,’ is a 152-piece generative art collection that is inspired by the Twitter verification checkmarks.
Butcher collaborated with the esteemed master printer Jean Milant and Cirrus Editions to create the Checks Elements collection, which features digital pieces by Jack Butcher, paired with matching hand-finished 30″ x 42″ monoprints made by Jean Milant. The entire series explores the relationship between consensus and truth, while also delving into the elemental relationship between digital and physical art.

Each piece within the series is divided into six tiers, all of which convey the motif of four elements – Earth, Fire, Water, and Air. The six tiers include Alpha (4x), Order (12x), Isolate (16x), Composite (24x), Compound (32x), and Complete (64x). The creation of each piece is meticulous, involving hand-drawing and reproduction following its algorithmic instructions using a Mailander 202 lithographic printing press.
As with Butcher’s original Checks project, Checks Elements incorporates gamified aspects designed to reward collectors who have invested in his previous works and those from his creative agency, Visualize Value.
Collectors who own Checks, Open, and VV 1/1s will receive special ‘Infinity Check’ NFTs for each tier they participate in during the auction. Additionally, All single Checks collectors will receive the full set of Infinity Check editions, regardless of their participation in the auction. The same goes for those who participate in Alpha and Christie’s auctions – they will also receive a full set of editions.

Christie’s will commence three individual auctions for Alpha Elements – Earth, Air, and Water on May 16th. 30% of the proceeds from these auctions will go towards supporting the exceptional efforts of St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital.
After the conclusion of the Christie’s auctions for the Earth, Air, and Water Alpha Elements on Tuesday, May 16th, the remaining collection will be made available for purchase 24 hours afterward on Checks Day 100, May 23rd. From then on, a series of six consecutive auctions will commence on Checks Day 101, May 24th, starting with ‘Completes’ and culminating in the bidding for the final Alpha Element, ‘Fire.’
