The integration of artificial intelligence (AI) into the Solana blockchain has been announced by the Solana Foundation, thanks to a specialized ChatGPT plugin developed by Solana Labs. This marks a significant milestone, as it is the first time a Layer 1 blockchain has joined forces with AI.
This ChatGPT plugin, which can be downloaded from Github, offers users a user-friendly method to interact with Solana data and protocols. It proves particularly useful for tasks such as purchasing NFTs, transferring tokens, analyzing transactions, decoding public account data, and identifying NFT collections based on their floor price.
Anatoly Yakovenko, the co-founder of Solana and the head of Solana Labs, emphasized the importance of this advancement. Yakovenko stated, “Every developer creating consumer-oriented apps should consider how their app will be interacted with through an AI model, as this represents a new paradigm for instructing computers. AI will enhance the usability and comprehensibility of Solana.”
Yakovenko highlighted Solana’s notable features, including fast throughput, low costs, and an intuitive interface, explaining that these attributes enable smooth and efficient interactions between AI models and the network. Although this initiative is still in its early stages, Solana is progressively establishing itself as a central hub for burgeoning AI activity within the web3 space.
To drive the integration of AI on Solana, the Solana Foundation has launched two key initiatives. Firstly, they have increased the funds allocated to their strategic grants program, dedicated to AI–focused projects, from an initial $1 million to a maximum of $10 million. This program aims to encourage the exploration of new use cases for machine learning models within Solana protocols and has already attracted 50 applications.
Additionally, the foundation has initiated a three-month accelerator program exclusively for university students. This endeavor brings together a dedicated group focused on the intersection of blockchain and AI. The program has received numerous applications from diverse projects and contributors, resulting in the development of the “Ask Solana U” chatbot and “Solana Audits AI.” These AI tools aim to support Solana’s development and enhance security for Solana-based programs.
